After a year of relevant columns and stories in 2023, we're working to bring you more in 2024

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK:
The year 2023 was a fruitful one here at 50 Cent A Word Substack. It was a year in which we covered a lot of ground: from the social landscape in Chicago, politics and more, to life in West Africa and the rise of a “new colonialism”. We’ve highlighted below some of the best of John Fountain’s work in hopes that it will allow you to catch up on stories you may have missed and also to share them with others.’
Also, stay turned for more information on an exciting forthcoming spring 2024 exhibit at several locations in Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Titled, “Africa Calling,” the series is an interactive multimedia exhibit and public lecture, featuring narrative storytelling, video, photography and music through the eyes of journalist and Professor John W. Fountain who spent nearly a year in Ghana as a 2021-22 U.S. Fulbright scholar. A native son of Chicago’s West Side and professor at Roosevelt University, Fountain will also share poetry and reflections as well as some the among hundreds of photos he captured and dozens of interviews with African Americans now living in Ghana. From the West Side to West Africa and back, he returns home with a message of faith, hope and clarity.
