Fountain Wins National Association of Black Journalist "Salute To Excellence Award"
"I stand here a lone shadow, on the corner of Ida B. Wells Drive and Wabash Avenue. The winter wind blows cold amid the roar of downtown traffic, speaking to my Black soul..."
By John W. Fountain
Thank You! To every reader, to everyone who has continued to support me since I declared my freedom from the mainstream American Press on the last leg of my journey in volunteer slavery at the (Chicago Sun-Times in November 2022), having been demeaned, belittled or devalued over a career. Thank you!
I declared then and I declare here and forever more: I am a Freed Black Journalist. No more chains holding me. I have escaped with my psyche, soul and integrity intact. With my fire for journalism and for writing for the healing, posterity and uplift of my people still burning bright.
I never sold out. But I remain souled out.
Thank God, I'm free. Freer as a writer, as a Black man, than I have ever been. No more chains.
Thank you, (NABJ) National Association of Black Journalists, for existing. For encouraging. For uplifting, even a brother like me.
